No benefit of an adjunctive phototherapy protocol in treatment of periodontitis: A split‐mouth randomized controlled trial

چکیده
Aim To assess the efficacy of a commercially available adjunctive phototherapy protocol (“Perio-1”) in treatment periodontitis. Materials and Methods In an examiner-blind, randomized, controlled, split-mouth, multicentre study, 60 periodontitis patients received root surface debridement (RSD) sextants either alone (control sextants) or with (test sextants). Re-evaluation was performed at 6, 12 24 weeks. Results No statistically significant differences mean (± standard deviation) clinical attachment level (CAL) change from baseline to week were observed between test (−1.00 ± 1.16 mm) control (−0.87 0.79 sites probing pocket depths (PPDs) ≥5 mm (“deep sites”) (p = .212). Comparisons for all other parameters (CAL sites, PPD deep sites/all bleeding on probing, plaque scores), intervals, failed identify any differences. Conclusions The did not provide additional benefits over those achieved by RSD alone. (German Clinical Trials Register DRKS00011229).

Effects of adjunctive daily phototherapy on chronic periodontitis: a randomized single-blind controlled trial
PURPOSE The purpose of this randomized single-blind controlled trial was to elucidate the clinical and antimicrobial effects of daily phototherapy (PT) as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with chronic periodontitis. METHODS The study was conducted from December 2013 to May 2014 at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, Seoul, Korea. Forty-one patients with mild to mo...
متن کاملIntermittent versus continuous phototherapy for the treatment of non-hemolytic moderate hyperbilirubinemia in term infants: a randomized controlled trial
Background: Phototherapy is the most effective treatment for neonatal jaundice and intermittent phototherapy is as effective as continuous phototherapy but with fewer complications and more benefits. This study compared the hospital length of stay, duration of phototherapy and the reducing rate of total serum bilirubin after 24 and 36 hours of phototherapy in two groups. Methods: The current d...
متن کاملADJunctive Ulinastatin in Sepsis Treatment in China (ADJUST study): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Sepsis is a major challenge in critical care and is associated with high mortality. Current management of sepsis and septic shock remains mainly supportive. Both basic and clinical research has shown that ulinastatin can improve the prognosis of sepsis. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy and safety profiles of ulinastatin compared with placebo. METHODS/DESIGN In this...
متن کاملUse of diode laser 980 nm as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. A randomized controlled clinical trial.
The primary goal of periodontal therapy is the removal of supra and subgingival bacterial deposits by mechanical debridement consisting in scaling and root-planing (SRP) using manual or power-driven instruments. The complete removal of bacteria and their toxins from periodontal pockets is not always achieved with conventional mechanical treatment. The use of lasers as an adjunctive therapy for ...
متن کاملThe effectiveness of massage therapy in the treatment of infantile colic symptoms: A randomized controlled trial
Background: Infantile colic, cry-fuss and sleep problems are transient in the initial months of life, but they contribute to maternal depression, parenting stress and family mental health problems. In this randomized clinical trial, we aimed to explore the efficacy of massage therapy compared to rocking in reducing infantile colic symptoms including duration and number of cries, sleep duration ...
